Looking to merge your business or thinking of buying up
your competitor?
Print recruitment specialists JDA are now assisting compatible companies to come together.
The new service, JDA PrintMerge, is aimed at assisting companies who may be considering a merger or acquisition.
JDA observes rationalisation taking place in the industry in an often haphazard fashion.
The following is an extract of an article which appeared in Print 21's online newsletter in December, 2006;
“Our industry is burdened with excess capacity, due to a variety of factors,” says Cryer. “It is vital that we find a way to re-align ourselves strategically to allow efficiencies to occur, rather than by letting hostile and in-compatible mergers occur, whether in desperation or in haste.”
JDA PrintMerge is essentially an ‘introduction’ service where participating companies will fall into two categories: Business For Sale or Business Wanted. The intention is to offer companies management options and choices highlighting who is out there that may be compatible, backed up independent advice from someone with a sympathetic understanding of the needs of the industry.
The aim is to provide companies with the means of achieving ‘profitable consolidation’, a term coined by the British Printing Industry Federation in its quest to provide a similar service to the UK industry.
"Cryer claims that as an independent consultant to the industry he is ideally placed to offer such a service, in touch with a wide cross-section of the industry and frequently asked to ‘keep an eye out’ for companies who may be seeking a merger.
'It is desirable that this search process be undertaken with sensitivity and discretion, rather than the existing situation where there is no easily-accessible ‘central register' enabling companies to explore options, anonymously' says Cryer. 'It is also important that this role is undertaken by someone who has a long-standing association with the printing industry.'”
